Fields, friends, and bugs

Hello friends! I don't know about everywhere else, but spring is definitely here! I hope everyone has been enjoying the weather whatever it's like where you are. The highs here have been in the upper 70's and the lows have been barely 50 degrees...which seems very out of the ordinary at this time of year for down here. You can't feel an ounce of humidity....and it's heavenly! If you've ever been to south eastern Georgia in the summer you will understand what I'm talking about, it gets miserable. There aren't even mosquitoes out yet!! I am insanely allergic and get bit about 50 times before anyone else gets it once. I found these bug repellent patches though! I haven't used one yet but I am pretty pumped about trying them. They only have vitamin B1 and aloe, so they're hippie friendly.
Now onto the dress!!

My good and sweet friend Annie sent this to me completely out of the blue. It was the best surprise to find in the mail box..and it fits! She was lucky enough to come across a group of lovely handmade dresses from the 50's. All I know is one little old lady out there somewhere used to have quite the stylish wardrobe. I usually don't wear dresses that are this length, I end up hemming them a lot shorter. I always feel like knee length or longer might look funny on me because I have REALLY short legs. Ha ha. It doesn't help when you're already short in general, add a long body and short legs and you have a recipe for feeling awkward in some clothing. But looking through these pictures make me think I was wrong this whole time!

The whole time I was taking pictures I was so worried about bugs and right behind me in this field are tons of bee boxes so there were honey bees buzzing all around. (having bee boxes in your backyard is so tempting..its a good thing I know nothing about honey or I would be out there stealing all of it) My first attempt at taking pictures today was worse than bee encounters though. There is a spot in our yard with old fallen down trees and trunks but every single one is old and rotten. So literally every step I took my foot just went right through like stepping on sawdust. This just made me think of bugs crawling out of the logs and all over me. So logically, I ran away.

No, I don't have an arm band.

  1. I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT on you!!! You look so lovely, my dear! Also, get out of my head. Last night, Josh was making fun of me for eating so much honey everyday, and I told him that my dream is to wear a bear costume and tip over honey hives. I'd put my little paw in there, scoop up all the honey, then hibernate. Or just tip over the bee boxes that are by our house.

    love you!

Well, spring looks lovely! It's not spring for me here in Australia - but autumn is kinda nice!

  3. Oh my god. That dress is the prettiest thing I've ever seen. And the length is just right for you in my opinion, maybe because the skirt starts so high up and thus lengthens your legs? I wish I'd find a fifties dress like this somewhere, you're so lucky your friend found this (:

  4. That dress is to-die-for! I know how you feel though... I'm only 4'10" and feel like wardrobe options for me are slim to none no matter what! I also feel very uncomfortable in "longer" skirts/dresses, but easily feel very uncomfortable in shorter ones. It's a never-ending battle!

  5. That dress is wonderful on you! What a lovely surprise. The other day I also received a surprise package from Meaghan, it's so much fun.
I have VERY short legs too! I alway feel better in knee length dresses myself. My legs look fat in short dress, haha...but that's just me.
I can't wait to move to TN. I love the south :o)

  22. Hi, you :)

I've just discovered your site and I saw you complaining about those annoying bugs...

You like hippie-style as well so I have a tip for you (never used it myself, because I've just heard from it and the mosquitoes are still not around in Holland...)
    Check out this link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/tv/features/growyourowndrugs/s2_episode3.shtml

On that website, there is a lemongrass insect repellent recipe of James Wong, you can make yourself, made of all natural ingredients!

Goodluck and I totally love your dress!
