Hello everyone! I have quite literally been dreaming about this dress for months, it has been in my 'to sew up' pile for awhile now. This is what it looked like when I found it at a Goodwill near here. I took in or shortened every area possible I think! I'm going to add a panel of the leftover material on the underside of the skirt part of the dress so I won't get arrested for wearing it without tights. Who wants that? I have decided to sew a new something once a week (fixing up a thrifted item counts too) and post about it every Wednesday. The only lame name I could think of was Wardrobe Wednesdays, so please let me know if you have a better idea!
Anyway, this is the ensemble I wore this weekend to see She&Him in Savannah, I just didn't get any pictures that day. Speaking of, She&Him is by far the best show I have ever been to, it was amazing! It blew me away how well Miss Deschanel can sing. In my opinion, she sounds a million times better live than on their album. How that is possible, I do not know.

I promised a good Zooey story in my last quick little post, so here goes! We headed downtown a few hours early to hang out/go eat to use up an old birthday gift card. I had secretly been daydreaming for months that we would just magically run into Zooey the day of the show (I think about a lot of important/logical things). Well we parked and walked a few minutes to the main downtown street with all of the shopping. We paused outside of a store where I jokingly said "this looks like a store she would shop at" and then we debated for a second if we should go in, we decided hey what else is there to do. I am not joking or exaggerating, the very SECOND (in the first store we went to as well) we started walking up the stairs to go in, none other than Zooey herself passed us on her way out the door. I think I almost peed my pants. I lost my mind and said "I DON'T CARE I AM GOING AFTER THEM!" and the 3 of us girls very quickly walked out the door (okay I lept out the door and they followed). We were obviously trying to devise a plan to say hi, but she was walking and talking with a few of her bandmates so we couldn't just walk up without being complete creeps. We were still desperately trying to think of something, and before we knew it we had followed them for like at last 10 minutes. Hahaha. I believe they were walking fast and talking a lot to discourage people from coming up and interrupting. Needless to say, we missed our chance. Something came over me. I'm not usually a weirdo who would follow someone, but I just kept repeating "I don't care!!" We were so cool and casual we even tried speeding up and walking in front of her so they would just think we were checking out the sights too. I wanted to cry for the rest of the day! Poor Patrick, he had to hear me lament over the situation over and over (and over). To make ourselves feel better
Abi and I decided at the very least Zooey was probably thinking "who were those girls with their cute dresses and tights walking in front of me??" I digress...
oh, and Zooey is SHORT!! She couldn't have been much (if any) taller than me, and I am barely 5'2". I was also literally blown away by how pretty she is in person. Ahhh..... Well that is enough of being a creep (especially after that long, pathetic story)

p.s. look at this super cute blog I found that belongs to a girl in Savannah! I have never found someone near here with a blog, so I was quite excited. I need some friends besides horned furry creatures that just yell at my all day long
Oh my goodness..sometimes I cant get over how pretty you are. I love this! You look so beautiful in that white dress and your tights and shoes are amazing. I love your tattoo too!
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are so gorgeous! Lovely dress.

that dress is amazing! you did an awesome job! it doesn't even look like the same dress! oh and i looove she & him too. i'm trying to get some people here to book them.
ReplyDeleteYour outfit is amazing! It's crazy how nice it turned out after the alterations. You look very pretty, by the way. :)
ReplyDeleteYou're gorgeous and great job on the altering of the dress.
ReplyDeleteAw and the same thing that happened to you with Zooey happened to me with the kooks! It's a rush!
You look stunning and that dress is gorgeous! That is such a hilarious Zooey story!!! I probably would have done something similar. If I ever had the chance to meet her I would probably freeze up!
ReplyDeleteI just came across your blog and so glad I did! I LOVE it!!! Such gorgeous pics!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great day!

You look adorable!
ReplyDeleteGahhh, and what a Zooey story! I remember seeing when you tweeted about it and I was listening to She and Him at that very moment! I would have done JUST what you did! I love that she's short :o)
You did a fab job with that dress --- I actually can't believe it's the same dress when I look at the before shot :o You should seriously do some more like this and sell them on etsy! Oh and you're so pretty in the photos.
ReplyDeleteOh, Vanessa, you look so beautiful!! These pictures are so gorgeous, lady. Teach me how to sew!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe Zooey is short! She looks so tall in a few of her ads. Maybe I should have paid closer attention in Yes Man when she's standing next to Jim Carrey... He's pretty huge. Also, I liked how you said you didn't know how someone could be better live! Studio work can be really different than live... She probably was responding to the atmosphere. Standing in front of cute Savannah fans is prob really different than being cooped up in a little studio! You know who else sounds way better live? Neko Case.
ReplyDeleteCool post!!

Vanessa! First off you make an amazing Edwardian-ish dress out of an old frumpy thrift store one, take it to Savannah, and wear it to see Zooey Deschanel, in person?? It couldn't be more perfect! (well, I guess unless you met her. though I think you're right--she had to have been jealous about that dress, and secretly impressed by Georgia style!)
ReplyDeleteReally, that dress is perfect.
Your dress is the cutest!
ReplyDeleteWow, seeing Zooey Deschanel out and about must of been an amazing sight. I'm so jealous. Also, I'm glad to hear that Zooey is as good to hear live as she is in the studio since I'm seeing She & Him in May! I'm so excited!! :) xo.
You made that dress sooo cute!
ReplyDeleteI love the pics. c:
Your wittiness and crafty ways are inspiring sweet lady! I have to admit I ran wildly after Zooey too after spotting her near the store, needless the say that girl can truck it in high heels and I also missed the chance to talk to her. Thank you for the link! Cupcake party soon!
ReplyDeleteAmazing pictures!
ReplyDeletei've been trying to sew something a least every few days, it's the best hobby eveeeer!
ReplyDeleteyou look adorable and i can only imagine zooey thought so too!
what an interesting story...I've run into celebrities like this when I used to live in the LA area. It was always so weird, and almost always never approached them. I think they would think I was creepy.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure I saw your outfit on wardrobe remix too? Gosh these photos are pretty
i feel like the same thing would befall me if a saw zooey. or someone of the like. Not that im not already a casual stalker (who isnt), but who could resist following short little zooey live and in person. ps, your reworked dress is amazing! i wish i could sew.

ReplyDeleteAmazing job altering your dress! Just recently discovered your blog. Thanks for the Zooey story, I watched (500) days of Summer today and have been listening to alot of volume 2 this past week. she & him is sold out in Toronto :(
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! can't believe it took me so long to find it! I saw she and him in LA a few weeks ago. So good!
ReplyDeletePS: While Zooey is shorter than she looks on camera - I've been face to face with her and we are about the same height - I'm 5'5 and a bit. She is stunning though! isn't she!
