I have a confession: I am not that good at cleaning and organizing. I never have been and I feel like I come from a line of non-cleaners. I am not gross by any means, but my brain just doesn't function that way. I have a tendency to make lots of piles, I work on a project and before I finish it I start another one. It seems like you hear that about creative people, so I am just going with that excuse. I have been trying to fix that and make an attempt to change! We use all 'green' cleaning supplies (well, except for toilet cleaner...for some reason ours refuses to be cleaned by anything but crazy bad for you cleaner), and mostly all homemade things. I had heard of a certain concoction that supposedly will clean almost anything and extremely randomly decided to try it the other day. I was walking into the kitchen to make tea when I got distracted and started cleaning the tea kettle (I was heating my water up in the microwave, mind you {maybe I have the worst attention span}). It was so exciting and amazing I had to share the results!
That nasty tea kettle above turned from that into this in a matter of about a minute.....

How you ask?? With baking soda and hydrogen peroxide!! I just put some baking soda on a sponge, poured on some hydrogen peroxide, and hardly scrubbed at all. This kettle has been so gross forever from sitting on the stove, nothing has ever worked. Apparently you can clean most anything with this concoction. Who wants to come over for tea with my now non-shameful kettle??

p.s. getting excited about cleaning is so horribly nerdy, I apologize.
Uh, holy cow that's amazing! Now I want to try!
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness!! How clean!!!
ReplyDeletehaha I am the saaaaame waaaaaay. my poor husband.

Ahahahaha! Me too! You should see my bedroom. It is the worst. Sometimes I go on cleaning sprees, but other times, I just really don't care. Poor Phil (husband). But! I do have to clean my tea kettle about once a month, because it gets pretty bad, but hasn't gotten as bad as yours yet. haha But if it does- I'll know how to clean it! So thanks! :)
ReplyDeletewow! i never knew about that cleaning combo! i must attack my tea kettle too. on especially sunny days, i often notice how messy my apartment is!

my tea kettle is gettin' a bath tonight! This is awesome, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteNo, no. I definitely get this excited about cleaning. I have a lovely selection of copper pots, and there's nothing better than seeing them sparkle like brand new after a few hours of polishing.
ReplyDeleteGirl, I hear you! I'm totally unorganized, I have no attention span, and I make so many craft-related messes (lemme tell you... my husband loooooves it)! I love this trick, though! However, I'm so unorganized that I've had "buy a teakettle" on my to-do list for nearly 5 years, so I heat my water in a pot on the stove like a total hillbilly! Sad...
ReplyDeleteLOL hahahah.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I have a disgusting tea kettle too and I am definitely going to try this! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI saw this tip on pinterest the other day and was wondering how well it works. My tea kettle is stainless steel too and believe me, I'm pretty sure mine looks worse than yours did so I MUST try this concoction! Thank you for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteOoh yeah! Satisfying!
ReplyDeleteHey, nerdy about cleaning? I can get into it. Geek out my friend
ReplyDeleteThat's amazingly clean! Will use this tip!

My teapot looks a lot like your "before" teapot. Maybe I'll give your cleaning concoction a try!
ReplyDeleteI am dying over this post because I am exactly the same. I seriously have no clue how to organize! If someone would just do it for me, I could keep it up.....for a while at least:) For now my pile system seems to be working.
ReplyDeleteI need to try this...we have basically the same kettle um, problem going on here. Ew.
ReplyDeleteIf that works, you will be my hero! I am not "ocd" and wish i was, b/c you guys always seem to know the tricks to cleaning! :)
ReplyDeleteFeel free to nerd out anytime! I love this kind of thing!
ReplyDeleteIt works! It really works!
ReplyDeleteThank-you!!!
Love always, My shiny Kettle
I used this today on my old, gross kettle.
ReplyDeleteYeah...it looks totally new.
Thank you!
I was looking at new teapots a couple days ago. Mine was beyond gross. I saw this today and figured it was too good to be true. So I just tried it and I can see myself in my teapot now. AMAZING!!!
