So, I've never really struggled with having problematic skin, even when I was a teenager somehow (miraculously!). Anyway recently I feel like my teenage years have finally been catching up with me ten years later, and my skin has been acting up like crazy for months and months! I thought when you get to 25 you're supposed to be in the clear of that kind of stuff? Rip off. Anyway I am always searching for more natural routes because my skin is also kind of sensitive sometimes. I tried using benzoyl peroxide/clearasil type treatments against my better judgment and boy did my skin pay for it! I then just had scaly dry skin with zits on top, yucky.
Well everyone I am hear to announce that I have found the miracle cure!!! After some searching around online I kept coming across people mentioning apple cider vinegar, mostly as a toner. Well I mixed some up and literally after using it for one day, the gross dry skin from the acne treatment was completely gone. Now, my skin wasn't overly oily but just felt normal. It has completely evened out or "normalized" my skin, no dry spots and no oily spots! It's been a probably two weeks and I haven't had any new acne, not even one tiny spot. I still have some leftover spots, but those are fading too! If I ever get a zit it will really stay around for months after it "heals", its awesome.
So here's what you do!
Project: DIY Miracle Toner
Supplies needed:
Supplies needed:
- Apple cider vinegar (I use this kind but any raw kind with 'the mother' would work)
- Water (or even a little rose water if you're feeling fancy)
- Container (a little spray bottle is most convenient)
This vinegar is pretty strong, so you shouldn't use it straight up! It just depends on your skin type for how much you can handle. I started with a mixture of 3 parts water to 1 part vinegar but also read it's even better to start with 4 parts water to 1 part vinegar just in case. I ended up adding another part of vinegar so I am using a 3 part water to 2 part vinegar mixture , and that seems to be working for me! Now when you put this on and stink to high heaven you will be wondering why the heck you followed my seemingly terrible advice. But have no fear! The second this stuff evaporates on your skin the smell disappears! I just keep a little spray bottle of the stuff to spray on a little cotton square and wipe my face every morning and night after washing up (well, I wash with cleanser at night and just water in the morning).
Now go, enjoy (hopefully) clear skin!
And please let me know if you try this (or have already) and what you think!

This is so helpful, I can't wait to try it. I've always had problem skin and can't remember a time I wasn't struggling with blemishes..I've tried it all, so I'm crossing my fingers that this one might help me.

Oh my gosh, I'm going to try this over the weekend. I've tried EVERYTHING to get rid of my spots, so hopefully this will finally be the thing that works!
ReplyDeleteApple cider vinegar is so good for so many things, I love it! I have that same issue with my skin, if I get a zit I have a spot for months after, even if I never even touch it, I guess it's because I'm pale! Sooo annoying.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to try this. I am in the same boat... skin has never been an issue till recently. Hopefully this will work!
ReplyDeletei love apple cider vinegar, and kudos to you for recommending more natural solutions! i have to say though, nothing works better for my skin than eating clean. problematic skin is just a reflection of the body's health within, so it's something that needs to be taken care of from within, not topically. up the intake of fruit and vegetables and decrease the intake of processed food, dairy and awful fats (big one for me, as excess fat consumption tends to give me pimples) and voila...radiant, glowing, spot free skin!
ReplyDeletelove your blog by the way!
I can't wait to try this! I've been looking for an all natural toner and this sounds perfect!
ReplyDeletei love your natural beauty recipes! i have been playing with some lately too :) my skin has been clear ever since i stopped wearing make-up and washing my face with just water. its been dry in the winter weather but i did a mud mask to get rid of the flakes and have been using rose hip oil on my dry spots and my skin is glowing! <3
ReplyDeleteThink I'm gonna have to give this a shot! Cheers to natural too- rather do that than harsh chemical cleansers! :D Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI have the exact same problem. My skin was perfect in my teenage years, and now that I`m almost 21, it`s not anymore...it`s not THAT bad, but I hate it.
ReplyDeleteSo, I`m definitely going to try this and get back to you!
Thanks!
Love, Lotta
Oh thanks for this! I also thought 25 was some magic age where zits stopped. I am currently trying Witch Hazel as a toner, and I don't really feel like it is doing anything.
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping your recipe works for me to!
firstly, just found your blog & i love.
ReplyDeletesecondly, my momma made me do this a while back and i've been doing it ever since. it helps me out quite a bit, especially with any oily spots. :D so glad that it's working for you! yay!
I think I have to try this.
ReplyDeleteMy skin is so angry! It's not really breaking out too badly, but it is a little bit. Mostly my problem is that my skin is incredibly dry and irritated all the time! Ugh!
Thanks for the tip :D
Oh my gosh! So cool! I have such a time with my sensitive skin...thanks for recommending this. I'm so going to try it. & it's gluten free too (even better since I'm allergic).
ReplyDeleteSo I've tried this yesterday and today. I have combination skin, some oily parts, some dry parts and it didn't overdry or make anything too oily. My skin feels really clean and balanced. I haven't used it long enough to know if it'll clear up the acne I have (which isn't much, just a few spots here and there, but I like the results so far! Thank-you so much for posting this!
ReplyDeletei'm so gonna try this! and with the warmer weather coming, my skin usually will go CRAZY.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I LOVE it when you post your natural beauty tips! I still really want to make the beet tint you posted about months ago..I can't wait to try this!
ReplyDeleteVinegar is just really amazing in general--I don't think there's a better or cheaper household cleaner than simple white vinegar and baking soda.
xoxo,
Gina
i'm so excited to try this!
ReplyDeleteI've read about this before, but haven't gotten around to trying it yet - but I'm going to tonight! I hope it will be equally miraculous on my pimply face.
ReplyDeleteI once used apple cider vinegar to get rid of an icky wart on my thumb! It caused it to turn black and fall off. GROSS...and AWESOME!
Also, it was very nice to see you last week! If you and the boys need a place to stay while in Arkansas on round two, just let us know. We will see to it that all your food, cat, sleep, and fun-having needs are met.

ReplyDeleteoops...
ReplyDeleteAt 21, and always having somewhat problematic skin, I've also had a very rough, like, 6 months. The whole "I've tried EVERYTHING" story. I finally caved after I seemingly eliminated all dietary and environmental problems, and just got antibiotics from the doctor. I'm excited to give this vinegar toner a try though. Alas, I guess I have not exhausted EVERYTHING.
This sounds fab.
ReplyDeleteI use Witch Hazel straight from the bottle as a tonner and find it refreshing and it has calmed my horrid acne/uneven skin plus it is only about £2 from the supermarket. Hurrah!
I'm trying this asap! I have always had oily skin and some acne, and I'm 28! I too have tried the benzoyl peroxide stuff and it did the same thing to me, dry skin w/ zits on top...I'm hoping this will work for my breakouts! thanks for the awesome tip and will comment if it works!
ReplyDeletei'm 28 and still dealing with it. like you, it came later in life unfortunately. i'll absolutely try it! :) thanks!

Thank you so much for this post! At nearly 26 I've been struggling with an acne outbreak that is rivaling my worst at 16. Ick. I've been using witch hazel as a toner, but it hasn't been doing a lot, so I'm curious to see if this does anything to help balance things out. Keeping my fingers crossed!!! :)
ReplyDeleteKeep these sorts of posts coming--I always love finding out about more natural methods of beauty treatment. ;)

I've used apple cider vinegar for about the last year for my skin and it has worked wonders. It is amazing stuff!
ReplyDeleteOh man, I should try this. I'm at a loss as to what to do with my stupid skin! Thanks for the tip
ReplyDeleteOh this is just what I needed! I had to order some ACV though, over here I couldn't find some organic type. I am looking forward to trying this out!! <3
ReplyDeletewhat a loveley blog ^_^ fOllOwinG x

Oh yeah this definitely works. I never had acne problems when I was in my teens either and then all of a sudden, I turn 22 and my chin goes crazy with blemishes. YUCK!
ReplyDeleteMy skin is sooo sensitive so I couldn't use any of the commercial products like Proactiv and such, so I looked for homeopathic remedies and this came up.
Seriously, it works like a dream! Thanks for posting it! I'm sure everyone could use a little clearer skin.
P.S. This might sound kind of gross at first, but my hair has never felt so clean, healthy, or soft. I use a baking soda paste (just basking soda and water) as my shampoo and rinse with an apple cider vinegar and water solution. I add rose essence to my hair when it's damp for a really clean, fresh scent.
Better than any shampoo or conditioner I have ever used (and I've used top notch stuff!). Nothing works better than nature! :)
Me too! I have eczema and tend to be alergic to shampoo. So since I cleaned my body with baking soda one day I tried it on my hair! I've never looked better (and I'm 44). Using the vinegar keeps the ph balanced and gives a nice shine. There are lots of webites of how to do this. Saves $ on shampoo!
DeleteThank you for the advice. I have the same thing happen to me - my skin has caught up with me in recent times! I'll have to try your method, thank you! x www.lostinthehaze.com
ReplyDeleteI love your natural beauty tips. I'm going to try this!
ReplyDeleteI did this! It totally zapped two zits overnight. Thank you so much for this!

You are a saint! Once I'm done whitening my teeth, I'm trying this.
ReplyDeleteZits be gone!!!
I vote you make this and bottle it in super fancy bottles.. ETSY.

ReplyDeleteit works!
ReplyDeletethanks so, so much. I love it when totally natural, normal, CHEAP things work miracles!
ps. I read that this same 4-to-1 mixture works wonders as a hair conditioner?
but haven't gotten up the courage yet. want to try it??
I think you saved my life, I started to use this for my skin. It's been only a week though, but I already feel the results. Thank you for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteafter using this for a couple of months, i think i can safely say you saved my face, literally! thank you!
ReplyDeleteI use this except that I use green tea in place of water.
ReplyDeleteyes, yes, yes! mixing this up after work! :) thanks.
ReplyDeleteI am in the exact same boat, never really had problematic skin, and then, BAM! I entered my 26th year and was welcomed by an onslaught of adult acne! In my opinion you shouldn't have to deal with acne and the horror of impending of wrinkles, it's just not fair. And being of the sensitive skin variety myself, I can't wait to give this natural cure all a try! Thanks for sharing, and your blog is lovely! :)
ReplyDeleteI am going to try it. I've recently been taking Oregano oil every and it has been working, but I have some stubborn ones that just won't go away.
